We have three services at South City: Family Support – Working with children and families across the City providing individual one to one work, groupwork, and parenting courses. Referral is via Social Workers only. Family Group Conferencing – Provides a structure and mechanism for families to resolve issues concerning the needs and wellbeing of children within those families. It is an innovative approach as it draws on the strengths of families themselves. Referral is via a Social Worker or conferences can be purchased on an individual basis. Independent Visitors Scheme – Children and Young People who are looked after by the Local Authority are entitled to an Independent Visitor. The child or young person will have little or no significant family contact and the Independent Visitor will be an appropriate role model for them, offering them support and giving them positive experiences. All Independent Visitors are unpaid volunteers, who offer a long term commitment to the child/young person. Applications to be a Visitor are accepted from anyone who believes they can make a difference to a childs life who is looked after. We also have a volunteer service which supports the work of the other three services and we are constantly looking for new volunteers.
