Croxteth Child Development Service

Description of work

Croxteth Child Development Service has the overall responsibility of the management of the “Chances” project. In addition to this responsibility we provide direct play activities to the children attending. We encourage the children in all aspects of their social physical, intellectual, creative, cultural and emotional development through play. Our priority is to evoke the child’s imagination by providing a wide variety of play activities. These have included long and short term projects such as multi-cultural arts & crafts. The children are given the opportunity to learn about the many different cultural festivals whilst producing an array of colourful art work, which often culminate into splendid wall displays. Additional activities have been an after school and holiday schemes, dance and drama projects, outward bound residential activities and outings, all with the emphasis on a healthy lifestyle. The Good Food club involves a small group of children selecting and preparing ingredients for healthy meals and learning about hygiene, table manners and the importance of a well balanced diet, with the added bonus of sharing their well prepared meal at the end of each session. Provides a package of holistic therapeutic support sessions for vulnerable young people aged 7-14 years old who are experiencing emotional/behavioural difficulties. A programme of support, from the following options, will be identified and developed to suit individual needs following consultation with the young person and their referrer: - 1:1 Counselling - Therapeutic Art/Play - Relaxation–using massage chairs/beds - Relaxing massage treatment Our ‘Blue Galaxy’ group sessions can provide a safe, containing setting, in which young people’s ‘self’ development is promoted in a sensitive, caring and supportive environment. Small group sessions create an intimate and friendly space where young people are given positive attention and encouraged to explore what is good about themselves, and others, through the celebration of positive qualities. Whilst group sessions are presented in a relaxed format, which appears informal, all sessions provide themes and opportunities for the development of:- - emotional literacy -communication skills - listening skills - self confidence - self-worth/deservability -empathic awareness - anger management -giving/receiving -personal/social skills -positive feedback - enhancement of self esteem - resolution of conflict - promoting healthy relationships - stress management through relaxation
