Training with Refugee Action

Refugee Action provides training courses for services, groups or individuals who would like to gain an understanding of asylum and issues surrounding asylum support. These courses are particularly suitable for advice, information and support workers.

Introduction to Asylum Advice

Participants will examine the experiences of refugees and asylum seekers, and the processes they face in the UK. The one-day course provides an overview of the asylum system including key features of the New Asylum Model, and access and restrictions to support. Participants will be able to identify the most common problems with support and understand what actions can be undertaken to resolve such problems.

Intermediate Asylum Advice

This two-day course aims to build upon information provided in our Introduction to Asylum Advice training, participants should have completed this prior to attendance. The training addresses some issues that surround provision of asylum support, such as changes of circumstances and problems with asylum support accommodation. It will also touch upon changes in the structure of support provided by the Home Office and implications. It will provide information about assisting in cases of racial harassment, domestic violence and look at the options available to those whose asylum support has been discontinued.

These courses do not cover immigration matters and asylum applications in detail. The courses are free of charge, though donations towards costs from organisations able to afford it are greatly appreciated. Lunch is not provided but refreshments will be available.
